Who says no one is hiring

urban ag.jpgIf you or someone you know is in need of a job and has some experience in sustainable agriculture or community organizing, the best nonprofit in the city -- the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture in Kansas City, Kansas -- is filling two positions right now. It needs a farm manager and a farm business developer.

If you're interested in agriculture and don't want to give up the urban life this is the job for you. The KCCUA is a non-profit devoted to trying to get people to use whatever extra land they have for gardening. Its representatives are present at pretty much every farmer's market in the area.

In addition, the organization runs a two-acre organic farm in the Argentine district and has started development on a six-acre site called Juniper Farms in the Oak Grove neighborhood of KCK.

The two open positions are:

Farm Business Developer: This is a new position that will help develop new farm businesses in Northeast Kansas City, Kansas, based at the Juniper Gardens Training Farm.

KC Community Farm Manager: The organization is re-opening the search for a Farm Manager.

Both positions are full-time; the organization is also looking for four part-time paid assistants.

In addition to teaching other people to grow their own food, you'd become an expert in growing it, too. After that, you'd basically only need to learn to build your own shelter and you'd never need another job again.
