Now Open: Grand St. Coffee

Grand St. Coffee owners Scott Mullins and Nathan Anderson admit not knowing much about the coffee -- or restaurant -- business before opening their new store at 2015 Grand last Friday. But they do know what their built-in customers want. "We own the building and this space was just a shell. So we surveyed the loft owners and asked them what they wanted," Anderson said while passing out fliers for the business in front of the store. "We went off of what they told us, and the fact that there really isn't a coffee house in the area. So here were are." Mullins added, "We are working closely with the Roasterie and we hired very knowledgeable employees."

The store has been a new experience for both of them -- Anderson has developed an expensive espresso habit. And the coffee house is still taking form. Almost caddy corner from The Cashew, its permanent outdoor sign goes up Thursday and next week. Anderson and Mullins also plan to begin offering sandwiches to the lunch crowd.

The prices are what's to be expected from a coffee house. Cappuccinos
and lattes cost $2.50 to $3.75. Smoothies, $4.25, come in several flavors
including mango and wild berry. Anderson and Mullins also hope to add live music on First Fridays in combination with their neighbor, AFW Frame & Gallery.
On June 5, Anderson said, "They'll have art and wine and be doing their thing and we'll be
serving coffee and Drew6 is playing." The shop also has free wi-fi.
