Black Cover Records gets the weekend off to a rocking start -- pairing Indie music with craft beers at the Black Clover Records Beer Fest. The fourth annual event starts Friday at 5 p.m. with more than 30 breweries in attendance, including new Belgium and Mikkeller. Tickets are $30 for the tasting and show.
The Mission Arts & Eats Festival starts to night from 5 to 11:30 p.m. and continues on Saturday (7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The sixth-annual event is also the site of the Battle of the Brisket State Championship -- a sprawling event that feels like a tuneup for the American Royal next month.
Grilling isn't just about meat. Get a tutorial on grilling perfect vegetables as part of the Kansas City Community Gardens Fall Family Festival and Harvest on Saturday. A pumpkin toss and peanut harvest are just part of the happenings at the Swope Park festivities, which run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $2.
Three words: Falldo. Waldo. Crawldo. Make attempts to avoid crawling and/or falling as you navigate through the 14 bars participating in the annual pub crawl. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 on the night of the event.
You don't often have the opportunity to sample sakes in Kansas City. So take advantage of the Sake Tasting from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Greater Kansas City Japan Festival on Saturday at the Carlsen Center in Johnson County Community College. While you're there, snack on sushi or snag a bento box prepared by the culinary students from JCCC.
Take advantage of what might be Kansas City's nicest outdoor weather at Plaza Pzazz on Sunday. The 200 and 300 blocks of Ward Parkway are closed off from 6 to 10 p.m for the outdoor benefit for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. With Boulevard beer and food from North, Blue Bird Bistro, and 12 Baltimore, this is a nice way to wrap up the weekend. Tickets are $75.
O'Dowd's in Zona Rosa celebrates its fourth anniversary in style with specials that run through Sunday. Your best deal is the $3 Black n' Tan on Sunday and the promise of "extra TVs" for the Chiefs game.
