Weekend Events That Troy and Leann Will Not Be Attending

Isn't my Troy something special?

Tonight on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Goren and Eames are investigating a homicide that leads to a corporate scandal. The preview looks intense! Troy never misses an episode of any of the Law & Order series, and Friday has become our “Criminal Intent Date Night!” lawandorder.jpgI usually call Pizza Hut and order up a Pepperoni with a cheese-stuffed crust, and I toss back a few bottles of Mike’s Hard Lemonade (Troy drinks nothing but Miller Genuine Draft, but I think the taste of beer is yucky!!!!). So we definitely won’t be attending tonight’s Ecstatic Dance course at the Plaza Wellspring Yoga Studio at 4901 Main Street. It’s a dance-based stress-relief workout based on the work of Gabrielle Roth. It costs $15 per person, and it starts at 7 p.m.

I’ve heard that they have free planetarium shows at the Gottlieb Planetarium in Union Station. Current shows include The Planets, Legends of the Night Sky, and Lifestyles of the Stars. It sure sounds like a fun opportunity to learn about the cosmos! For showtimes, you can call 816-460-2020. Troy and I won’t be there, because on Saturday, we have to go visit Troy’s mom in Independence – she’s recovering from her foot surgery, and I bought her this T-shirt as a get-well-soon gift:

It really gave me a giggle!!!

It’s Food for Fines week at Kansas City, Missouri, public libraries! If you owe money for an overdue book or lost materials fees, you can bring undamaged, unexpired boxed or canned non-perishables in exchange for a $1 reduction per item. If you don’t have any outstanding fines, you can apply the donated items for free video and DVD check-out. The food is donated to Harvester’s. But it’s not like I have any outstanding fines! I only read one or two books a year (This year: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And I bought my copy at Sam’s Club – no late fees there!!!!) So I won’t be getting out to the library any time soon.

My single friend Doreen goes to Wine Lovers Sunday at Hereford House at least once a month – she says they offer half-price bottles of their featured wines, and the menu at Hereford House is fantastic. They have several locations – Doreen goes to 5001 Town Center Drive. (Troy loves a good steak – he always says, “If God didn’t want us to eat animals, he wouldn’t have made them out of meat!!!!” He’s such a hoot!)

Gene Simmons has nothing on Satan. But this Sunday isn’t so good for evening outings – Saturday is the start of the Satanic Continuous High Holiday, which runs through November 4th, and at that point, the Satanic Revels start – so you can see our Sundays are pretty much continuously booked through next month. Doreen and I won’t soon be dishing about the gals at work over glasses of white zin! But our faith is important to us, as Satan will one day smite the followers of weakling Christ. All hail the dark lord – and have an awesome weekend!!!! -- Chris Packham
