Cindy Faulknier in Westport

On Wednesday night, I was in line at Murray's Ice Cream when I noticed this striking woman in a crisp outfit in front of me. As she peered into the ice cream case, I admired her black skirt with its white stitching details. I also wanted to get a better look at her cool necklace, too, so I caught up with her outside after she finished her ice cream.

Cindy Faulknier, a 58-year-old Fairway resident, is all about pairing neutrals with colorful accessories. "I'm very fond of black. Black sort of dominates my wardrobe," she said. I asked her where she got her skirt. She had to think for a moment before coming up with Macy's. I'm a big fan of knee-length skirts, which I think are really flattering on most people -- especially petite women.

I also love bold necklaces, and hers was nicely framed by the black sweater that she had thrown around her shoulders. The necklace is made of glazed clay, and she bought it 20 years ago at an art fair in Chicago. "This thing weighs a ton," Cindy said. She also said that she only wears in in the summertime -- it's the sort of necklace that needs a great outfit to show it off. Plus, she thinks that it "looks like summer fun."

"I'm big on accessories. It's very unusual that I don't have a big pair of earrings on. But with this necklace, it starts to look like Bozo the Clown," she added.

Cindy is a retired senior manager. She said that she used to travel extensively, and her living-out-of-a-suitcase days has had an influence on her style. "Black and white serve me well ... in business and casual, stick to basics and accessorize like crazy," she said.
