Mandy Norman, 28, at the Velvet Dog
by NADIA PFLAUM
I spotted Mandy at a bridal shower that kicked off at the Velvet Dog. She was impossible to miss, with luminous blond hair and neon orange fingernails. She explained, “I wear acrylics, and I get them really short. I used to work in merchandise for Urban Outfitters and I had to do a lot of work with my hands, and my real nails are too weak. So I get the acrylics but they still have to be short. It’s the best place to get a pop of color.”
Mandy’s short hair is of her own creation, too. “I’ve cut my own hair since I was 15. Ever since I had my son – he’s 15 months old now – I cut my hair. It was this long,” she says, putting her hands to her waist. “I think I always know what I want at the salon but I can’t enunciate it so I’m never perfectly happy when I leave.”
She claims she hasn’t always been so stylish. “Everything that happened in the 90s, fashion-wise, I’m guilty of. The high-waisted mom jeans, tight rolled, and everything matching too much.”
Clearly, she’s got it under control now.
