Blame the Chiefs for the city's violence

Herm Edwards may need a hug after this season.

Yesterday, our friends at State of the Line broke down the growing trend of store clerks going Charles Bronson on the asses of would-be thieves. Buried at the end of the post was a link to a story drawing a "disturbing and accurate correlation" between crime and shitty football teams.

Earlier this month, the blog Sportaphile compared the NFL's worst franchises and America's 25 most dangerous cities. Nine of the NFL's bottom-feeding franchises are based in cities in the top 25. A tenth team, the Cleveland Browns, is the only team with a winning record in a dangerous city.

The top 10 most dangerous cities with NFL teams:

1. Detroit, Michigan -- Lions
2. St. Louis, Missouri -- Rams
4. Oakland, California -- Raiders
10. Cleveland, Ohio -- Browns
12. Baltimore, Maryland -- Ravens
16. Cincinnati, Ohio -- Bengals
18. Kansas City, Missouri -- Chiefs
21. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- Eagles
22. Atlanta, Georgia -- Falcons
24. Buffalo, New York -- Bills

Sportaphile calls the Oakland Raiders the "runaway choice to have the worst 2008 season," but predicts the Baltimore Ravens to have the ugliest record at the end of the season. We wouldn't count out our winless Chiefs, who will start Damon Huard Sunday against the undefeated Denver Broncos.
