This weekend, movie theaters are going to be packed with teenagers who have been patiently waiting for the Twilight romance-vampire novels to make their big screen debut. Between this and High School Musical 3, a lot of kids have probably burned through their allowances. Though it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get your classmates to join you in choreographed song-and-dance numbers between pre-calculus and third-period gym, you can find someone who will accept you for embracing your undead side.

Let us offer you this short introduction to blood-sucking in Kansas City, whether you just want pretend you’re a Victorian gentlemen seducing flower girls with a wave of your black cloak, or you want to meet someone willing to let you sip his or her hemoglobin. Best of luck, daywalkers.

    Shadows of London
Where do you find it? Yahoo Groups
What do they do? They describe themselves as a Victorian vampire live action role playing game, set in 1839 London. This requires some imagination, since they’re based in 2008 Kansas City.
Cinematic vampire equivalent: Gary Oldman as Dracula

    KC After Dark
Where do you find it? Again, Yahoo Groups.
What do they do? They offer vampire role players in Kansas City a place to get together and exchange ideas about uh, characters. They want to get enough together to have a regular game every other Saturday at some undisclosed crypt in midtown.
Cinematic vampire equivalent: Fox’s short lived vampire soap, Kindred: The Embraced.

    Gathering Dusk
Where do you find it? Meetup.com
What do they do? Role players, turn back! This is real-deal Nosferatu stuff, with about 75 members. They describe themselves as a meet-up group (and they seem to meet up pretty regularly) for goths, vampires, otherkin and – intriguing – donors. They’ve also got one of the friendliest descriptions, noting that they’re very casual, open to meeting new people of all ages.
Cinematic vampire equivalent: Underrated George Romero film Martin.
