Women having abortions, "principled conservative leader" Lance Kinzer is watching out for your uterus. Yesterday, the Olathe lawmaker introduced his "Bill to Ensure a Woman's Right to Know and See." What exactly does Kinzer want you to know and see? A sonogram. And counseling brochures. And a Web site. And he wants you to listen to a heartbeat. And see a sign telling explaining that you don't have to have an abortion if you don't want to. Because you couldn't figure that out on your own.

"It is imperative that every woman considering an abortion receive complete information on the reality and status of her pregnancy and her unborn child," Kinzer said in a statement. "Every woman submitting to an abortion should only do so after giving her voluntary and well informed consent."

Kinzer's show-and-tell sounds a lot like its own type of coercion.

We've been here before. Last year, Governor Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a similar bill. But the abortion wars in Kansas are just heating up, especially if Kansas lawmakers have to hear more prayers like this one.

This poorly written article seems to express that educating women about their decision is a bad thing. There are a lot of negative feelings dripping off the post.

The bottom line is the woman makes the decision, so why are you so bitter about the fact that she might choose not to have an abortion after all?

Kinzer and lawmakers like him are under the mistaken notion that women have abortions for fun and don't realize what it actually means. If you look at any national (unbiased)study of abortion statistics you will find there is nothing to support this and therefore no reason to keep attempting to legislate it.

You're right on one thing: It is the woman's choice. No one should be coercing her one way or the other once she has made the decision. Why should government jump into such a personal decision?
