Upset! Sam Graves isn't the sleaziest campaigner

Sam Graves, as it turns out, isn't sleazier than John McCain or Liddy Dole. It's not for lack of trying -- see Graves' abortion-loving, interracial, San Francisco sodomite wet dream:

Graves' homophobic campaign ads finished third -- third?!? -- in Talking Points Memo's Golden Duke Awards. I totally thought Graves had this one; the ads were good enough to win a 2008 Best Of Kansas City award from The Pitch. But our endorsement couldn't propel Graves' ads above Dole's "godless atheists" or John McCain's Obama-wants-to-teach-kindergartners-how-to-fornicate ads.

Still, Graves earned critical acclaim from TPM's judges:

Bonus points for making the homosexual black! This man is clearly closeted. -- Spencer Ackerman

Graves deserves recognition for 'Girls Gone Wild' VHS-porn-level production values. -- Hendrik Hertzberg

The next time I go to San Francisco -- or get an abortion -- I'm going to whip out my spandex glitter pants and boogie on down to whatever disco floor Sam Graves concocted for his campaign commercial against Kay Barnes. -- Susie Bright

It is not only sleazy, but self-consciously sleazy and more than a little afraid of its subject. -- Paul Kiel

What little money I have left is on Graves for the 2010 awards.
