Re: Request for Recount of Petition Signatures for the Recall of Mark Funkhouser
Dear Ms. Thompson:
On behalf of the Committee to Recall Mark Funkhouser, I respectfully
request a formal recount of the signatures contained in the Petitions
previously submitted to you by the Committee. As you know, more than
21,000 signatures were submitted and the initial count is short by 129
signatures. We believe that 7/10ths of 1% is such a small margin that a
recount is justified.
As you are no doubt aware, this is a case of first impression; there has never been a recount of a Recall Petition drive.
Accordingly, we respectfully request that your office supply the following:
- Detailed written guidelines, including time limits and procedures as to how a recount shall be conducted.
- All written procedures and criteria used to disqualify or verify signatures; and if there are no such documents, the ability to interview the personnel involved in verifying petition signatures, in order to determine what criteria were applied in striking signatures.
- That the Committee and/or its representatives be given full access and adequate time to examine all of the documents and work product used to determine the validity of the signatures, including both originals and any copies used in the validation process, as well as access to any and all databases used by the Board of Election.
We realize how much pressure your office is under and we thank you for your help and consistent good humor. Please let me know when these items will be available. We look forward to working with you to provide a prompt and accurate recount.
Thanking you in advance for your continued cooperation, I remain
Very truly yours,
Harris H. Wilder
