The link for what we were calling "Right to Life night at the K" disappeared shortly after we ran this piece Friday morning, about the awkward timing of such a promotion in light of the assassination of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller. Besides, as a part-time season-ticket holder told us, it's just bad business to mix politics and sports.
Mark Tilson, vice president of sales and marketing for the Royals, cleared up some points today. The Royals, he said, were not "aligning ourselves with this specific group." He added that Friday night is most certainly not "Right to Life night at the K."
"I think people kind of used that term -- Right to Life night at the K -- something that implied that this was an event being endorsed or supported by the organization, which is not the case. If it was an error in judgment, it obviously falls on us," he said.
