From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the Mid-America Regional Council is having an open house on its Transportation Outlook 2040 plan -- a document that will dictate policy and funding priorities for the next three decades. Stop in for one of the presentations at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.; or just drop in anytime to let them know where you want your transit dollars to go.
The Bluford branch of the Kansas City Public Library is getting a million-dollar face lift in coming months. Learn about the project from library director Crosby Kemper III on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the East Side branch. Then, on Saturday, chip in some funds yourself by dropping by the renovation campaign's car wash from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Auto Zone at 32nd Street and Prospect Avenue.
The Guadalupe Center, one of the longest running Latino cultural institutions in the country, is marking its 90th anniversary this year. Help them celebrate and toss them a few bucks by attending the Ruben Ramos concert this Friday. The event runs from 5 to 11 p.m. and tickets are $5. Before or after the music, check out the third annual Westside Block Party, with music, dancing and food from 6 to 10 p.m. down the street at La Esquina.

Saturday is National Trails Day and organizations all around the metro could use an extra hand sprucing up the woody or watery paths they love. Just one example: The Kansas City Trail Nerds are hosting a maintenance session from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wyandotte County Lake Park; register here. The Mid-America Regional Council also has a list of area events.
President Obama is ramping up his efforts for healthcare reform and some Kansas City residents want to help him do it. Local folks from Organizing for America will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. at Baja 600 on Saturday to start educating on the issue and planning local activities from the June 27th National Day of Healthcare Service.
