They love us! They really love us!

Judges called Harper's blog "a funny, profane chronicle of the local music scene with an engaged and opinionated audience." They said Fat City was "a moving-in-time portrait of a moveable feast, nicely balancing high and low tastes." We like to think that special balance of high and low taste is the very essence of The Pitch.
Our print crew did pretty damn well, too.
Competing against the Star and other large dailies in the region, we swept the Entertainment category, with Alan Scherstuhl taking home the Gold for "The Best Story of the Year," his profile of Fox4 movie reviewer/blurb whore Shawn Edwards; Scherstuhl also earned a Silver for his regular Stage columns; Harper grabbed the Bronze with "A Picture of Hope," his story about the Gaslights' Abigail Henderson and her fight against breast cancer.
More Silvers went to David Martin for his News Columns; to Carolyn Szczepanski in Business Reporting for "Your Tax Dollars Not at Work" (deconstructing the toxic, money-sucking Citadel Plaza project) and in Sports writing for "Up Show-Me Creek" (about crazy Missouri River canoe racers); and to Peter Rugg in Magazine Story for the real-live exorcist tale "Devil Inside."
Szczepanski also won two Bronzes in the Feature category for "Old Street, New Dance," about the Friends of Alvin Ailey's move to 18th and Vine, and in the Profile category for "The Teacher," her piece on now-school-board member Airick Leonard West.
Rugg also earned an Honorable Mention in the General Reporting category for "Children Left Behind," his report on autism education problems in the Lee's Summit School District.
Judges comments -- about these stories and all the other winners in Print, Radio, Online and Television -- are here. Congratulations to everyone.
