A 24-year-old woman told police that she was abducted and raped after
departing a bar in the Power & Light District at 3:15 a.m. Sunday.
According to the police report, the woman exited Tengo Sed Cantina on Walnut Street in order to smoke a cigarette. In her account, a man then pushed her into the backseat of a vehicle. Two other men, including the driver, were in the vehicle. She was driven to the vicinity of 24th and Topping, taken from the car and raped at the edge of Blue Valley Park.

An ambulance took the "visibly shaken and traumatized" woman to St. Luke's Hospital. Police canvassed the area at 24th and Topping "with negative results." An investigating officer made contact with Power & Light security, and a search was made for a camera that might have captured the alleged abduction.
"If the alleged abduction did occur, it is a very rare and unfortunate event," Jon Stephens, a spokesman for the Power & Light District, said in an e-mail this afternoon.
Later, Stephens issued this statement:
"'Preliminary information was made available to The Kansas City Power & Light District regarding an alleged incident occurring at 3:15 am on Walnut Street outside of the district. The incident is currently under investigation by the Kansas City Police Department. The Kansas City Power & Light District has one of the safest track records in the metropolitan area with specific measures in place to provide a secure, enjoyable experience for the 10 million annual visitors. This rare and isolated incident allegedly happened after-hours outside of the district. We continue to work with city officials in finding solutions to provide a safe environment throughout downtown."
