KMBC reports that the officer was making an arrest when a gun fell out of the suspect's pocket and discharged, hitting the officer. The officer was reportedly taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Still waiting for an official dispatch from the KCPD. I'll let you know when I hear something.
Update (8:56 a.m. Friday, October, 30): The KCPD says the injured officer was a detective working at the Greyhound bus station. The detective tried to stop a suspicious acting man. There was a struggle and that's when the gun discharged, striking the detective in the leg. Police arrested the suspect and found two guns on him.
