Dear Pitch: As always, thanks for posting the stats on homicides--a subject most of the city's establishment would like to keep as hidden as possible. One troubling statistic about recent homicide totals: In 2007 there were 62 black homicide victims, in 2008 there were 95 and so far in 2009 there are 73--so, the crime surge in the past two years has fallen almost entirely on the city's black population--homicides of whites, Asians and Hispanics have been at steady, unchanging levels for the past three years. This was a senseless killing. This young man was my cousin. I hope that whoever shot him will be able to live with themselves knowing that you have hurt many people that dearly loved Maurice. It appears that the young people have gotten out of control and simply have no respect for themselves or anyone else. I would just like to ask the guys that shot him how do you feel? Do you have any feelings? Did you not realize that this young man had a soul? Maurice's murder has truely hurt so many people.
