Kansas Jayhawks football coach Mark Mangino and athletic director Lew Perkins don't talk much anymore. That was the news out of Mangino's weekly press conference yesterday.

Mangino told the press that his communication with Perkins has been "practically none" since the university launched an internal investigation into the way Mangino treats his players.

"I don't know if there should be or should not be," Mangino said of whether there should be more communication with Perkins. "You always like communication with everybody -- communication with your players, your coaches, your administrators, your support staff -- all those people. But I'm good. I'm fine and I'm working."

Sounds like Mangino and Perkins may be headed for a break up.

Kansas fans wanting to run off Mangino may want to look at what happened to Iowa State after coach Dan McCarney was run out of town.

McCarney never made it to the level of Mangino, 2007's national coach of the year, but he took a doormat Cyclone football program and turned it into a contender for the Big 12 North. McCarney's successor, Gene Chizik, won a pathetic five games in two years before bolting for Auburn.

The Cyclones hired Paul Rhoads, who led them to a 6-6 record and bowl eligibility. Trust me, Kansas fans. You'll be longing for a .500 season when your team's cellar dwelling again.
