Mark Funkhouser Hadn't Heard of George Clinton

Our new mayor, Matt ... sorry ... Mark Funkhouser, admitted in a press release to not having heard of George Clinton before he began his mayoral campaign. Surely the PR guy could have gotten a better quotation from the mayor than one that admits he's so white that he managed to live through the late '60s and the following three decades and not hear of Clinton, Parliament, P-Funk, or anything.

See our edited version of the press release after the jump.

And, for the mayor's benefit, here's a picture of George Clinton, just so he doesn't mistake, like, Stretch or someone for the funk music icon.

Mayor Funkhouser to share stage with "Prime Minister of Funk"

Mayor Mark Funkhouser will introduce legendary funk artist George Clinton at a concert tonight at Crossroads at Grinders, a new concert venue at 417 E. 18th St. Clinton wrote "Tear the Roof off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk)," which Funkhouser used as his campaign theme song. Clinton is also known as the "Prime Minister of Funk."

"I never heard of George Clinton before the campaign," Funkhouser admits. "But now I'm a big fan." "As the now official Mayor of Funk, I'm honored to meet the Prime Minister,"
Funkhouser said. "It's a good thing the Crossroads venue's outdoors, 'cause me and George would tear the roof off the sucker."

"Free beer to girls who show their tits when I'm on stage," the mayor added.

Tickets for the concert are $21 for general admission. Doors open at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome. The mayor will appear onstage to introduce Clinton at about 8:30 p.m.
