Monday Music Junkie: Exclusive Steinski, new Wu-Tang & Ghostface, Springsteen Covers and More

THE LESSON PLAN
Even if you don’t recognize Steven “Steinski” Stein by name, it’s impossible not to feel the impact he’s made on DJ culture. Steinski and Double Dee’s Lessons releases are the Holy Grail for crate diggers, but soon they will be available on CD, courtesy of Illegal Art Records. Here’s what he told us via email, “Details at this moment are a bit hazy. Working title is What Does it All Mean? Multitrack Recordings by Steinski and Several Other People. Includes the Lessons.”
Steinski was also nice enough to hook us up with a couple hour-long cut-and-paste mixes that come highly recommended.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Hip-hop fans will get a double dose of Ghostface with solo LP7 The Big Doe Rehab on December and the Wu-Tang Clan’s 8 Diagrams one week later. The scheduling faux pas has created some tension within the group, so don’t expect to see all eight members on the same stage in the near future. Instead, catch Ghostface live at the Beaumont Club on November 10 and download his new single now (via zShare) exclusively at Nahright.
As for the Wu, I have to say that I’m a little bit disappointed in “the only song to legally sample the Beatles.” The first single from 8 Diagrams, which samples “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” is fairly underwhelming. Decide for yourself below, courtesy of Loud.com.

DYLANESQUE
I think I’m more excited for the soundtrack to the upcoming I’m Not There biopic than I am the actual movie. The double disc collection includes Bob Dylan covers from Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Stephen Malkmus, Mark Lanegan and plenty more. Stream a few tracks at the film’s MySpace page.
The soundtrack hits stores next week, and the film will see a limited release on November 21. Here’s the trailer.
BOSS SOUNDS
There have been a lot of Bruce Springsteen covers floating around recently, and the Boss man even earned himself a bit of indie cred recently with his impromptu performance with Arcade Fire.

PSYCHEDELIC FREAKOUT
The Warlocks was the original band name for both the Grateful Dead and the Velvet Underground, and its current owner is certainly more akin to the latter. Frontman Bobby Hecksher describes his outfit’s latest psychedelic-rock LP as “Eight electric tales moving from space-marooned heavy blues to angelic, opiated dream haze—all propelled via the crud fuzz of White Light/White Heat Velvets and Jesus and Mary Chain and the sprawling, melted constructions of Spacemen 3 and Red Krayola.”
