Lookin' Kinda Closed There, Jilly's

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 09:00:00 AM

I'm pretty sure that Jilly's, at 19th and Broadway, is no more. Apart from reports from field scouts in the first weeks of April (Jilly's apparent last weeks), I recently came across this post from a local blogger, describing the place's apparent last night of business. The numbers I have for the place and its owner, Bob Pierce, have been disconnected, so I regret that I have no official word.

I drove by there yesterday and found a metal grate, padlocked to the wall, sealing the door. Inside the hole where the doorknob had been was a disconnection notice from Missouri Gas Energy. Uncollected mail was in the mailbox.

Many of us at The Pitch had some swell times at this little dive, especially at our first two Ultra Music DJ Contests, at Fat Sal and Senor Ozgood's night back in the day, and, most recently, at Clockwerk's longstanding '80s/Ladies night.

Our clubs editor, Berry Anderson, took a picture of this quite charming little drawing on the men's bathroom wall (as per our workplace code, I won't ask Berry what she was doing in the men's bathroom with a camera). It's now viewable here -- and only here -- for the forseeable future.

Adieu, Jilly's?

Clint, the gent who booked the Thursday night gigs, sent around a bulletin three weeks ago stating Jilly's had closed.

I just noticed this article. Does it appear Jilly's is still closed? That place was great and will be missed!

What is Robert eRoom?
