Friday night, the shirtless and barefooted masses gather for an all-star lineup at Wakarusa, with performances by Cake, Blackalicious, Arrested Devlopment, Built to Spill, Del the Funky Homosapien, Mates of State and the Flaming Lips. Watch out for chiggers, lice.

Roskopp

Friday night also marks the first day of Midwest Fest, aka Punks on the Prairie, a two-day barrage of punk and hardcore bands split between the Replay Lounge and the Jackpot. Locals Der Todesking, Spook Lights and Sucked Dry play alongside touring acts Clusterfux and Roskopp . Watch out for staph infections.

Soul Providers get everyone excited with another First Friday block party on 18th street. Check out last month's set here.

And Drakkar Sauna play punchdrunk country at the Brick with the Afterparty and the Blessed Broke.

Ben Folds

Saturday night, Wakarusa fest jams on with performances by Ben Folds and Alejandro Escovdeo.

Midwest Fest pummels all day Saturday with locals Big Fuckin Missile Crisis, We’re Fucked, and Imminent Death setting the stage for headliners Catheter, Wartorn, and Choose Your Poison.

Rockfest brings Stone Temple Pilots, Shinedown, Sevendust and Saliva to Liberty Memorial. Watch out for herpes.

Rex Hobart

Rex Hobart & the Honky Tonk Standards play sweatsoaked, sentimental honky-tonk with retro rockabilly dudes the Slick Brothers at Mike's Tavern.

And Ad Astra Per Aspera debuts its new 7", the first ever Love Garden record release, at the Eighth Street Tap Room. Bandit Teeth and the big-voiced Henry Daggs join.

Sunday night, Emmylou Harris rounds out Wakarusa.

And Megan Birdsall enchants Jardine's with her sweet, playful jazz.
