Dude, Were You At the Ween Afterparty?

Sun Jul 20, 2008 at 02:12:27 PM

Someone mentioned to us a few days ago that Ween played an afterparty at Midwestern Music after their show here a week ago. Then, yesterday, another person said the same thing -- and that it was on "the youtube." After dutifully getting drunk and making out with your mother and passing out, we awoke and searched the youtube for evidence of Ween afterpartiness. Behold, the results:

Video one is a funk jam, starring Matt Kesler of the Pedaljets and owner of Midwestern Music, who walks across the frame around the 2:34 mark. Can't tell if this is the store, though.

Video two is a spirited rendition of "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton.

Were you there? What can you report?

We were there. Yes, that's the store. We were in the front row at the show, and Gener looked as if he was not feeling well. About 30 minutes after the show ended, a limited number of fans outside of Midwestern were invited in to see a private concert. It was about 40 people, no beer was allowed (although they did hand out some to the front later). The owner even turned on trippy, multi-colored lights. The band (minus Gener) did about 2 hours, including Clapton, Zepplin, Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, Allman Brothers to name a few... For us native Kansans, there were a few embarrasing moments; the sluttiness of the blonde girl in the plaid (dancing in the first video) and the idiot who yelled "Nobody leaves here without playing the blues!!" after the band spent the whole time playing blues and funk. There was also a few people who grabbed the BAND'S beer (tacky)- but they got shut down by the crew.
It was our first show, we were stunned to be so lucky and loved the whole experience.
