Republic Tigers do Sinatra on iTunes exclusive tribute
What have you done for Ol' Blue Eyes lately? Me, I tried to watch Guys & Dolls over the weekend. (Fell asleep.) Kansas City's Republic Tigers, on the other hand, sent Frank Sinatra an epic, trance-inducing, acoustic-layered, electronic-lathered valentine via the July 7 iTunes release of Sinatra: His Way, Our Way, a compilation of contemporary artists covering songs that the Chairman made famous.
The Tigers' contribution: "The Impossible Dream (The Quest)," originally composed by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion for the 1965 musical Man of La Mancha. Classy! The song is from the '66 Sinatra album That's Life. Click here or on the screenshot below for the iTunes link to purchase the song. (Your computer must have iTunes installed for it to work).
As you'll see below, the tracklist (courtesy the Tigers' MySpace blog) also includes Maroon 5, Josh Radin, the Kooks, the Kills, and a few we haven't heard of. What would Sinatra think? He'd hate the music, but his "bird" would be flattered. As of now -- barely a day after the thing posted -- the Tigers' have 10 reviews posted by iTunes users, ranging from 5-starred raves ("Nice Work!" "Amazing!: It took a beautiful classic song and gave it a wonderful modern twist") to 1-starred disses ("Impossible" "A Mess: Gives you a headache and causes seizures in puppies"), but most in the middle. Eh, what do those saps know anyways? Download the song for 99 cents and decide for yourself.
