Mac Lethal Ticket, Hat and T-Shirt Giveaway (MP3 Enhanced)

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 11:38:51 AM

The Wayward Blog is proud to present yet another opportunity for Mac Lethal fans not to have to pay to get into one of his shows. And this time, it comes with free merch: a Black Clover hat and shirt combo.

E-mail the correct answer to the following trivia question to jason.harper@pitch.com. Tomorrow (that's Thursday, July 24, for people with calendars), around noon, I'll select one winner randomly from the correct answers. The winner will get two tickets to Mac Lethal's show this Friday, July 25, at the Beaumont, with guests Grieves, DJ Sku and Approach, plus the aforementioned attire.

Contest Question: Which two local high schools get shout outs in the Mac Lethal song "Make-Out Bandit?"

The contest is over. Congratulations, Erin! She was chosen from those who gave the correct answer, which is Shawnee Mission West and Raytown High.

And while you're chewing on that, here's the soon-to-be-classic "Drunk Flow #1" from Mac's upcoming Crown Prime Rib Mixtape, mixed by DJ Sku.

David Cook in This Week's Rolling Stone

Wed Jun 25, 2008 at 08:00:00 AM

By C.J. JANOVY

David Cook

This week’s issue of Rolling Stone has an interview with American Idol winner and Blue Springs native David Cook. Among the fascinating revelations: at a “glitzy restaurant on the south tip of Manhattan’s Central Park,” Cook is “scared” of foie gras on toast, drowning out the taste with a Sprite, and refuses to eat “a delicate flan of pureed peas.” Cook also shows his “gnawed fingernails.” Although Cook seems out of place in New York City, he has fond memories of going to Royals games and performing his first audition, a second-grade try-out for a cowboy-themed Christmas pageant. And learning his first instrument, the violin, because he liked a girl in the orchestra. Read the interview here.

Chip Hanna's Drumset For Sale on Craigslist

Mon Jun 23, 2008 at 10:35:49 AM

by FLANNERY CASHILL

Famous drums for sale!

Some of you may know Chip Hanna from his drumming for the '90s street punk band U.S. Bombs. Others may recognize him from One Man Army or his alt-country project Chip Hanna and the Berlin Three. Either way, few of you probably expected his drumset to end up in Leawood. Present owner Ben Pate met Hanna in his former state of residence, California, and the drums were a joint Christmas gift from Pate's girlfriend and Hanna himself. Pate has put the set on sale for Craigslist, advertising to collectors and drummers but hoping that someone who "knows and appreciates drums" will buy them first. The drums have been on several nationwide tours and used on the original U.S. Bombs recordings, but really, they're just not practical in a condo.

Now's Your Chance: Rock and Roll Dating Is Here!

Fri May 23, 2008 at 02:49:00 PM

Don't laugh -- John and Yoko met online. Or was that Sid and Nancy?

Anyway, here's your chance to meet the love of your life or the psycho who will jab you in an artery with a meat fork, stuff you in a blue plastic barrel with a bouquet of roses and dump you on the highway while singing wildly along with "One More Cup of Coffee for the Road" on his truck stereo.

Behold: RockNRollDating.com

There are 1,620 profiles total on this thing, so you might give it some time to grow before you go out and test your theory that no one who likes to take a bath and listen to Nick Drake can be an asshole.

Kudos to "Monster" of Belton, Missouri, who is the only person within 100 miles of Kansas City to have seet up a profile so far. His music preferences: "Lamb of God, Slipknot, pretty much everything."

Monster probably likes Chopin, too, he just, you know, blanked out when he was creating his profile.

Take This Job and Shove It

Wed May 07, 2008 at 08:30:00 AM

Tonight the Tivoli showcases recent work of UMKC film students, including a video for Devil Blare’s “The Journeyman” directed by Chris Menown. Devil Blare summarizes:

After years of sweeping up kid's crap, a school janitor finds Devil Blare's "The Journeyman" cd in a pile of trash, picks it up, plays it, which then totally inspires him to tell off his superiors and the kids whose rubbish he's been cleaning up for so many years. The video is basically an instructional video on how to gloriously quit your shitty job before getting fired.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Tivoli, and is free to the public. Read our own story about Devil Blare here.

Ahoy There! Pirate Band Be Needin' Guitarrrr Player

Fri May 02, 2008 at 11:40:45 AM

Play the guitar, matey? Now's yer chance to join a pirate band!

Musical Blades is a real, actual band. They're based in Shawnee and recently placed this ad on Backpage.com seeking a guitarist.

From the ad:
"Our music is mostly original, traditional sounding, comedy laden (pirate) sea chanties, but we also do non-comedic songs, as well as a few traditional songs. Our last guitarist, who also sang a tenner harmony, has recently walked the plank (so to speak) and we need someone to fill his shoes."

Hoo, Nelly, think of the puns to be made!
